i don’t read many short stories but this feminist collection “her body and other parties” by carmen maria machado is quite beautiful! it has a very introspective feel, and plays with both fantasy and realism. if you’ve read, let me know what your favorite story from this collection was!

i’m sure everyone knows how much i loved this series already considering how much i raved about it when reading, but i’ll get into the specifics of that love now! the characters are well developed and so very lovable; they each had intriguing growth arcs that helped stimulate the story. i LOVE a good love triangle and this one had me in a chokehold from the moment the characters met until the end of the series. the plot was interesting and well developed, and i loved the concept of ‘clockwork creatures’ as a disturbing victorian gothic take on robots. magnus has always been my favorite character in this universe (from the things i’ve read and watched) and this series made me love him EVEN MORE. he is so complex and introspective and i love the way he intertwined himself in Will’s life. this series had me sobbing, giggling, kicking my feet like a child, and i just could not get enough of the love stories. i hope to read more of clare very soon! ❤️

for me, the infernal devices is definitely going down as a favorite series of the year so far! and i’ve been having so much fun reading through the haikyuu and jujustu kaisen mangas, they are so good and are easy little stress relievers when i can’t get myself to stick with a whole novel. honestly it’s been such a great first half of the year and i’m excited to keep pushing myself to read as much as i can! 🥰👏

just a priory appreciation post as i struggle to recover from finishing the infernal devices 🥲❤️ it’s taking everything in me to move forward and read the books i have sitting on my shelf instead of impulse buying every other cassandra clare book 🤣 pray for my swift recovery because the reading slump has me in a chokehold 🙏

this was a chilling and disturbing read that kept me on the edge of my seat from the first page. i really enjoyed how the concept of lucid dreaming was incorporated into the story, i found it to be a unique premise that really increased the suspense and caused the reader to question what was real and what was a part of the characters’ imaginations. the ending was completely unpredictable in my opinion; there were several times where i was convinced i knew what was going on—and i was wrong every time. would definitely recommend to anyone with interest in the horror, murder mystery, and thriller genres.

i’m not sure why but the cover for “the shadows” by alex north has had a chokehold on me ever since i first saw it—even though i didn’t actually buy it until months later. it’s so simplistic but ominous and disturbing, especially after reading the book. i love covers that strengthen the impact of a story, and this is one that definitely did that for me! 🖤

while i found this book to be a bit cliché and predictable, the entertainment value was very high for me. definitely a book that kept me up all night reading, which has a lot of value in my ultimate opinion. the characters are pretty flat, but i really enjoyed the academia setting and thought it brought a lot of value to the feel of the story. it’s a simple, satiating read with only a tad of spice but a lot of great character chemistry. would definitely recommend for lovers of contemporary romance! ❤️

you guyssss—it’s been a crazy week for me and i still don’t feel totally sane yet so i’ve just been escaping into books and video games 😅 reading the love hypothesis this week has been a double-edged sword because it made me feel so lonely but also it was such a fun read at the same time 🤣 i feel like that’s probably why i don’t read a lot of contemporary romance but gosh. it is just so dang GOOD when i do. i’ll be revisiting that one for sure 😇

Joshua is clearly baffled by Lucy's overly bright clothes, quirkiness, and Pollyanna attitude.   Now up for the same promotion, their battle of wills has come to a head and Lucy refuses to back down when their latest game could cost her her dream job…But the tension between Lucy and Joshua has also reached its boiling point, and Lucy is discovering that maybe she doesn't hate Joshua. And maybe, he doesn't hate her either. Or maybe this is just another game.

This was a very fun and entertaining read. I think the dialogue was my favorite part of this—the banter and verbal dynamic between lucy and josh was very well done and had me laughing out loud while reading. i loved seeing these characters come together and grow as people as they grew into their relationship with one another. this is definitely a guilty pleasure read for me and i will be revisiting this in the future for the spice 🔥 recommend if you’re looking for a book that’ll give you a brain break and also feed any office romance fantasies you may have😻

i love true crime! after i watched the show mindhunter, my mom gifted me with the book that inspired it! i love seeing psychology and crime come together to try and make sense of all the things that shape people’s personality and behaviors. i have a whole cubby on my bookshelf dedicated to true crime 😆 i do really want to see more true crime books written by women/POC though, i am a bit tired of reading old white men’s views on human behavior 💀 if you have any true crime recommendations with women/POC authors drop them below so i can check them out!

This series was such a fun read!! As a Harry Potter fan, I loved getting a similar premise with queer characters and a lot more laughs! Simon and Baz’s relationship was my favorite part of the series, but the plot of each book was exciting and I couldn’t put these down! The entire series gets 5 stars for me. If you’re looking for a fast-paced easy to digest fantasy option to get you out of a slump I think this would be a great series to pick up. Get ready to laugh, cry, and cheer for some of the most genuine feeling teenagers who are just trying to figure out life and love (and magic).

so sorry i’ve been so inactive lately guys!!! settling into new york life has been crazyyy. i’m constantly struggling to find more time in the days 😫 why only 24 hours?? and why do i need sleep?? ugh! though i will say i’ve been doing so much writing lately and i am very happy about that, even if it means i’m spending less time reading. i wish i could do both at a lightning speed but oh well 😭 i hope everyone has been doing well!! ❤️

This book captivated me at every turn. The writing was beautiful, Pearson’s style is both grounded and elevated in her storytelling. The romance was my favorite part of this, of course. Jase is a wonderful love interest, sarcastic and rebellious but capable and powerful with a darling soft side. Kazi is a great female lead; she’s headstrong and driven, but flawed in her mistrust of others. The romance contains a lot of my favorite tropes: forced proximity, enemies to lovers, “who did this to you?”, and betrayal. The side characters were well written too, most of them with their own unique backstories which really added to the depth of the book. I haven’t read the sequel, but I definitely plan to after loving this one so much. There’s just something so gripping about two characters that learn to hate the world a little less by falling in love with each other.

this is a snip from one of my favorite anime intros—wotakoi: love is hard for otaku ❤️ the song is so catchy and upbeat, and fits the vibe of the show perfectly! the four main characters narumi, hirotaka, hanako, & taro are all featured—the quad is so cute 🥺🥰

i NEVER skip intros—i don’t care if i’ve watched 6 episodes in a night 😂 however i will say i’ve never watched one i really hated, maybe then i would skip it. usually i really enjoy them and they help me get excited for the episode!

This book was like a warm hug. It’s touching, full of possibilities, and pulls on your heart strings in the most unexpected ways. It brought me to tears a few times, even as someone who doesn’t have a connection to children in the real world. The love story was slow and sweet, more of an added aspect to the story rather than an integral part of it and I desperately wanted more. I really loved Linus as the main character because it’s not very often that a story is told from the perspective of the most normal individual. He’s just your average guy, doing the job that he’s been paid to do for years (same as quite a lot of us) until he meets some special people who challenge him to consider the implications of his work. His character growth is beautiful to read, the writing is exquisite, and the story is simple but powerful. It didn’t quite reach 5 ⭐️ for me, just because I’m not a huge fan of reading about children and at times it felt a bit juvenile and targeted towards a younger audience, but regardless I loved it—and if you love a fantasy with romance and a great found family trope, I would highly suggest giving this a read! ❤️

i haven’t read the book in years but i watch the movie every year pretty much so there’s my answer 🤣 i love both though!! this series holds a special place in my pre-teen heart ❤️ although CONFESSION: i was team jacob for YEARS and just recently converted to team edward within the past year or so… don’t @ me hahaha 😅 regardless i love this series and the movie adaptions, and i don’t plan on stopping that love anytime soon! ❤️
